The Asia-Pacific International Tea Competition, initiated by the Tea Industry Committee of the China International Agricultural Cooperation Promotion Association, is co-hosted by tea organizations from 20 countries worldwide. Over the past decade, it has become one of the most influential professional and international tea evaluation events.
This year, the competition was fierce, drawing 342 tea samples from numerous countries and regions, including Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, and mainland China. The samples were judged across three categories: Green Tea, Black Tea, and Other Teas (yellow, white, Oolong, Pu-erh, processed, and alternative teas). The evaluation process, spanning from May to late October 2025, involved more than 20 experts from Asia, Europe, Africa, and Oceania, reviewing over 5,000 samples in total.
(Prior to the merger, the region's quality was already established: in 2024, 19 Shan Tuyet tea samples from Ha Giang province won awards at the GLS Tea Competition in Australia, including 8 Gold, 8 Silver, and 3 Bronze.)
Following the merger of Tuyen Quang and Ha Giang provinces, the new Tuyen Quang now boasts a total tea cultivation area exceeding 28,000 hectares. Tea is firmly identified as one of the province's key high-value crops, with a total producing area of 27,203 hectares and an annual output exceeding 170,000 tons.
Specialty Focus: The province's flagship product, Shan Tuyet tea, covers 18,000 hectares, including over 7,000 hectares of ancient, old-growth Shan Tuyet trees.
Quality Certification: Over 1,300 hectares of tea are officially certified under rigorous standards (VietGAP, Organic, etc.).
Market Reach: Tuyen Quang's main products - Specialty Shan Tuyet, green, black, and yellow teas - are sold domestically and exported to over 20 countries, including the United States, Russia, the UAE, Pakistan, Taiwan, and EU nations.
Mr. Giang Duc Hiep, Director of the Sub-Department for Crop Production and Plant Protection (under the Department of Agriculture and Environment), views these consecutive international awards as a crucial validation of Tuyen Quang's quality and brand equity.
"This is a massive opportunity for our production zones, enterprises, and cooperatives to leverage these results, enhance product value, and connect production with ecotourism and tea culture experiences in Tuyen land," Mr. Hiep stated.
His department is committed to advising on a development strategy that integrates science and technology into production and processing. The goal is clear: to enhance quality, increase value, and build the Tuyen Quang tea brand into a competitive force in both the domestic and international markets.
